Physicians are one of the busiest among professionals. The nature of their job dictates that they must always be on-call, especially during emergencies. They do not only save lives and treat diseases, they also impact the lives of patients and their families through their compassion and service.

Last year, the nationally recognized survey conducted by the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) showed that compensation trends for physicians are high and the demands for specialists and primary care physicians are steadily rising.

This year, a new survey by the AMGA is underway. The results are yet to be unveiled but the fact remains, physicians lead a financially-rewarding and fulfilling career.

Haven’t you noticed that rarely do we see a male nurse. With little boys, nursing is not a popular choice of occupation when you ask them what they want to be when they grow up.

It must be because of the perception that nursing is not an appealing career for men. In Movies or TV shows, nurses are always portrayed by women. Ads would show women as nurses and male as the patients. But now due to the shortage of nurses, maybe it’s high time that the need for men be acknowledge.

Marketing strategies and materials be formulated to entice men to try the nursing profession. Schools, Recruitment agencies and other organizations should set a goal to recruit more male nurses.

With proper advertising, networking and references, hopefully we can attract more men in the field of nursing and have more male nurses in the future.

Aside from the lack of medical equipments in other countries, a new crisis in the medical world is now taking its place: diminishing number of nurses.

According to news reports, the population of the nurses has greatly decreased so far. Even though nurses are in demand all throughout the world (hospitals and care giving institutions), their number seems to diminish.

In the Philippines, nursing degree is what’s “in” today. A lot of people get nursing in college since they do dream of working in other countries where nurses are insufficient. However, this has a negative effect to the country. “Brain drain”, or the act of professionals leaving the country for a “greener pasture” abroad, is prevalent.

This is somewhat like a continuation of my previous post about medical resume. I believe that to better understand the art of resume writing, a person has to know if the resume he is going to make will suit the career he wants. This entails self-assessment, too, just like when you are deciding on what food to eat or what job to get.

A good medical resume has to be detailed. By detail, it means the qualifications and work experiences (if theres any) are written in chronological order (from the current to the past.) Remember that a resume is the first step of the employment process and that to move on to the next stage, it has to pass the discriminating eyes of the hiring manager.

Heres a medical resume quiz to help you devise the perfect medical resume for you.

Resumes take on various styles depending on the kind of job you want to get. If its in the medical field, then a resume that focuses mainly on accomplishments is imperative.

A comprehensive resume is always welcome though, particularly one that clearly conveys the values upheld by the applicant. Values such as professionalism, compassion and dedication to work are a must in the medical field so make sure you have them if you really want to pursue a medical career.

A physics major applying for a medical research internship should use a resume title indicating internship. This is usually followed by a short paragraph that describes key qualifications.

When one says surgeons, an image of a person in white robe with a surgical knife on one hand is all that comes to mind. They are those who perform surgery, mainly to save a patients life or treat a disease. However, there are different kinds of surgeons aside from the general surgeon such as the following:

1. Neurosurgeons. These surgeons deal with different body types but most of the time, they perform brain surgery which is one of the most complex types of surgery.

2. Orthopedic surgeons. They provide specialist treatment and deal primarily with children who have the most deformities in the bones.

3. Trauma surgeons. These surgeons attend to patients who have been injured and aid in their rehabilitation and full recovery.

So, if you are planning to pursue a surgical career, identify first which surgery job you really want.
